With great sorrow I share with you the sad news that Professor Edmond Ko, the founder, former Acting Head, and Adjunct Professor for the past decade of our department, was found dead at home yesterday evening. Police estimated that he may have been dead many hours earlier. The exact cause of his death is not yet available. He suffered a serious stomach flu recently. He may have been suffocated while vomiting according to unofficial news.
Professor Edmond was a great educator, a caring person and mentor for many students, staff and young faculty members. He has made outstanding contributions to CBME, to the School, the University and Hong Kong education. His passing away presented an irreplaceable loss to us.
I am sure many of you will be shocked to hear this news. A number of faculty members have expressed their grief of the loss of, and appreciation of the helps from, Professor Ko. The department will form an Ad-hoc committee to find out proper ways to commemorate Professor Ko so that his contributions are remembered and his passionate education spirit can continue to inspire future generations.
Prof. Ko was survived by a brother who happened to visit HK. I shall keep you informed on further development.
May Professor Edmond Ko rest in peace!
